G1 Climax 32: Updated Rankings; Tom Lawlor Note

Credit: NJPW

Well it happened. I swore it wouldn’t, but in the end it was truly inevitable. The thing about falling behind on something like the G1 is that it’s actually really fun to catch up. It seemed overwhelming at first because- let’s be honest- the G1 is a lot of wrestling. But thankfully my little burnout seems to be over and I’m now excitedly awaiting the shows once again. In case you’re like me and have fallen just a tinyyyy bit behind, here are the updated G1 Climax 32 Rankings as of August 1, 2022.

Kazuchika Okada- 6

Toru Yano- 2

Bad Luck Fale- 4

Tom Lawlor-0

B BLOCK:

This makes Jay White and Kazuchika Okada the leaders of the tournament so far.

I want to touch on something that happened outside of the ring over the weekend.

Filthy Tom Lawlor.

With a grand total of zero points it seems appropriate that Lawlor would be frustrated. But instead of using his post-match promo time to complain that things aren’t going his way like one would expect him to, he went in a different direction.

There is something so special when a wrestler forces you to root for them. When something they say or something they do hits in such a hard way you literally cannot help but to root for them. Tom Lawlor’s impassioned promo after his July 30th loss has put him at the very top of my list to win the G1. Tears rolling down his face, he explained his real life losses. He shared how lost his best friend, his dog, his sister. He shared how he almost lost his dad and his mom. He took his real life pain and loss and turned it into the reason why he’s “not walking away from the G1 empty handed.” And goddamnit I believe he can really do it. Isn’t professional wrestling so magical in that way?

The G1 Climax continues August 2nd, and I’ll be back here with my silly little thought!
