Jon Moxley, Nick Gage: All’s Fair in Love and War

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

Jon Moxley and Nick Gage have history. A lot of history, in fact. Their first match happened decades ago in CZW, and somehow, someway, we all knew they were going to be intertwined for the rest of their careers. This Saturday night they face for what could possibly be the last time at GCW’s Fight Club Night One. Not only is Jon Moxley’s GCW Championship on the line… Nick Gage’s career is up for grabs as well. If Gage loses, his career is over. Although their lives and careers have taken Mox and Gage in completely different directions at times, it makes all the sense in the world that they’d end up here, battling it out for all the things that means everything to them.

There’s some kind of poetic element in Nick Gage putting his career on the line against Moxley. It was Fight Club last year when Mox beat Gage in a death-match, Gage promising the MDK Gang that he would win the GCW Championship one day. Jon Moxley has been GCW Champion since September, 2021. If anyone was going to beat Mox, it would be Gage. But at the same time, if anyone was going to take Gage’s career away from him and the fans, it makes sense for it to be Moxley.

No, no, no, this can’t be the end. Can it? The idea of an independent, death-match wrestling scene without Nick Gage is foreign, but does Mox really lay down for the three count? Both men will stop at nothing to come out victorious. Even if that means killing each other. And then, there’s the news of Jon Moxley’s AEW contract extension. It was announced last night that Moxley signed a five year deal, and going forward is working exclusively with AEW and NJPW. Does this change anything about tonight? Is there still a small chance he emerges still the GCW Champion?

No matter which way the coin flips tonight, it’ll be game changing for the independent death-match wrestling scene. This could very well be the last time Mox and Gage ever face off inside the squared circle. One thing is certain: it will be an unforgettable night at The Showboat and for fans around the world. Moxley and Gage are going to beat the ever living shit out of each other, and only one of them can reign victorious. It’s the end of an era for GCW no matter the results. Nick Gage is synonymous with GCW, and if tonight is really his last, there will forever be a void that can’t be filled. If Moxley loses, his new contract deal all but confirms this is his last independent wrestling match. A world in which Jon Moxley and MDK aren’t trying to kill each other is going to take some getting used to…..

Bring on the fight forever chants.
