AEW Blood & Guts Review: BCC Picks up the win in Spite of a Disgruntled Eddie Kingston

Credit: AEW

I, personally, don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching grown men fight to the death in crazy contraptions. Last night was no exception. AEW Blood & Guts has no shortage of “Oh my God,” “This is awesome” moments. Here’s what I liked and what I didn’t.

The Good, The Great, The Holy Shit!

First things first. Orange Cassidy. Orange Cassidy and new, but not so new, entrance music. Orange Cassidy and JANE!!!! This, although overshadowed by the other events of the night, was one of the coolest moments of the event. Is it a coincidence that he picked up the win too? I think not.

Now for the main spectacle, the Blood & Guts match. This match was great on almost all accounts. It hit all the typical Blood & Guts spots: people on top of the cage, an outsider’s attempt to open the cage, thumbtacks (Mox and Yuta with the thumbtack bags was my favorite moment) , and of course, blood. The Blackpool Combat Club was the perfect group to put inside the structure, and it was a good ending point to their feud with the Jericho Appreciation Society. I loved loved loved Ruby Soho coming out to attack Tay Conti as she tried to break into the cage. Ruby’s a perfect addition to the BCC if they choose to go that way. Eddie’s entrance into the match with a kendo stick- hitting anyone who dared com near him- was perfection. They did a really good job of making sure newest BCC member, Claudio, really had a chance to shine.

Now there’s a few things I would have liked to have seen….

I had high hopes going into this match, that Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho would be the first two wrestlers in the ring. Instead, they entered last for their respective teams. I also wanted them to play up Eddie and Claudio’s beef just a little bit more. But hey, I live for the drama. Nothing is more exciting than wrestlers taking it to the top of the cage, however, I was left wondering what was going on inside the ring. And, I wish Eddie would have thrown Jericho off the cage to really wrap up Eddie’s murder attempts at Jericho over the last few weeks.

All in all….

The more I think about it the more I’m in love with the match’s finish. I mean, Claudio stealing the win from Eddie? GENIUS. Yes, Claudio won for the whole team, but Eddie was going to humiliate Jericho and win in the process. Claudio- one of Eddie’s many enemies- took that away from him. Man when this explodes it’s gonna be great. The ending scene of the Blackpool Combat Club standing victorious was an epic shot and did a great job of painting the BCC as unstoppable. Once again, AEW gave us pay-per-view worthy stuff on a random Wednesday night.
