Sunday morning at the stroke of dawn is not when you would expect some of the best wrestling content of the week to premier, but its Sunday morning at the ass crack of dawn when R.J City and his rotating guests shine on “Hey! (EW).” The popular YouTube series features the stars of All Elite Wrestling in interviews conducted by talented and charming. R.J City. The interviews blur the line between a wrestler in character and out of character- it is genuinely hard to tell. For AEW, this show is exactly what they need. It successfully breaks up the constant matches and wrestling and gives fans a different type of content.
R.J City shines in every episode. His personality was made for a show like this, and no one else could ever do it justice. The show itself is unserious- the interview questions mostly having little to do with anything- but that’s what makes it so great. And the personal connection-whether good or bad- City has with every single guest only adds to the humor. Take for instance the latest episode with new AEW hire, Renee Paquette. Right off the gate we see a special relationship develop between the two broadcasters, and it’s not necessarily a good one. Throughout the interview, R.J takes subtle digs at Paquette and moves from question to question sometimes without even listening to her answer. In the end, the two hug it out and fans are once again left clamoring for more. It’s in my opinion that one episode of “Hey! (EW)” a week is not enough. It’s the annoyed nature of the wrestlers, the laidback setting of the show, of course, R.J. City himself that makes the show one of a kind.
AEW is known for its exceptional wrestling and has attracted a large fans base of people who are only there to watch the wrestling. But for the rest of the fans who enjoy content outside of the ring, “Hey! (EW)” is the perfect way to get this fix.
