Juicy- tempting, appealing.
Joey Janela is hot. When thinking of the independent scene, he might not be one of the first names that come to your mind, but he should be.
I get it. I get it. In light of the recent happening at GCW Welcome to Heartbreak, now is not the time to be penning articles filled with praise. But there’s something that makes you want to recognize how fucking good he is. He knows he’s good. He has the audience at his fingertips- one moment cheering for him, the next beer cans flying at his head.
Janela - as mentioned in his February 26 promo- has spent the past five years working with GCW. He’s also spent some time in AEW. Up until recent events, one would write an article and call him a fan favorite. You would never think he’d be closing a GCW show as fans boo and throw things into the ring mere moments after they cheered him on during the match. But then again you actually could imagine that…
It’s the genius of Joey Janela.
Last month Janela opened GCW Coldest Winter - in classic heel fashion - demanding we give him his flowers. He was met with a chorus of boos and some chants of “fuck Joey Janela,” but perhaps he is right (don’t tell him that).
There’s something about Janela that’s almost irresistible. He makes you want to pay attention to him. His stories, his matches- hell even his shows; The two nights of Spring Break are some of the most anticipated shows of Wrestlemania weekend. His larger-than-life personality makes him a can’t miss attraction on any card. As mentioned earlier, he’s juicy! You can’t help but be at least somewhat invested in all he’s doing. He’s a special sort of wrestler and truly everyone should be talking about him. Above all else, it’s evident that he cares about what he’s doing. It’s easy to see he loves the business, especially the indies, and who wouldn’t want to root for that?
Like I said he’s a genius. Everything he touches feels special. He’s the main attraction.
With the recent news broken with Denise Salcedo of Janela’s impending AEW departure, now is the time to recognize how big of a role he plays in the independent scene and how successful he’s been in such a short amount of time. He might be the guy you hate now, especially going into his match with X-PAC, but let him be the guy you love to hate.
