They did WHAT?!?!? Wrestling things I liked in June

Hellooooo everyone and welcome to the first edition of “They did WHAT?!” This ongoing series will be published at the end of every month, and is meant to highlight my favorite happenings in the wrestling world. We’re obviously well into July now, but there was sooo much I enjoyed in June, for example…….

Jon Moxley

Okay, okay. This is supposed to be more about moments and matches I enjoyed than wrestlers but when I was rough-drafting this list Mox’s name came up a lot. From his match with Speedball Mike Bailey, to his match with Tony Deppen (more on that later), to his match with HIROSHI FUCKING TANAHASHI, and all the promos and matches in between. Sometimes I think Jon Moxley is just an illusion because no way he actually exists, right?

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI IS ALL ELITE!!

Ohhh my god ohhh my god. I mean, this one wasn’t shocking in any sense of the way but STILL???!!! I’ll never ever forget that moment his music hit… I can still hear the excitement around me. I hope with my whole whole heart he thrives in AEW- I think he will. And not to be the person that stirs the pot but I lost my fucking mind at the fact him and Eddie Kingston are in the same company and had to team together. I genuinely believe Eddie hates him and as much as I love both of them I can’t wait for this to erupt.

Forbidden Door

I know, I know but I promise this will be the last time I talk about this show (🤞). I just couldn’t do a recap of my favorite things to happen in June without mentioning this pay-per-view. Even looking back on it now that I’ve had time to rewatch it, there’s still not a single moment of that show that was lacking. As much as I’ve wrote about it on here, I’ve thought about it 100 times more. You don’t even understand. Speaking of not understanding…..

GCW’s You Wouldn’t Understand

I may be a bit biased here because I attended this live, but this was truly one of my favorite shows this past month. GCW shows in New York will always, always have a special place in my heart. Now remember what I said earlier about Mox and Tony Deppen? Ohhhhh man oh man. This match. Fucked. Me. Up. I was honestly devastated that Deppen lost. But the match was good enough that, to me at least, it didn’t even matter who won. As standard with all GCW shows, there wasn’t one part of the night that didn’t have me on my feet.

Orange Cassidy’s New (old) Entrance Music.

JANE YOU SAY IT’S ALL OVER

This is probably the only recent entrance music change I’ll ever celebrate. Most of the time, a music change messes me up so bad and takes about a hundred points off the experience for me. But Orange Cassidy getting his indie wrestling song back in AEW was in a way the most wholesome thing to happen this June.

Elias, Ezekiel, Kevin Owens, oh my!

The last item I’m going to mention for this article, but it’s certainly not the least. I won’t lie, I’ve been highly entertained by the Elias/Ezekiel, Kevin Owens story in WWE. Kevin Owens is one of those wrestlers that’s good enough to make anything work, and as silly as it has been, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the work the wrestlers involved have done…. Annnnnd the jokes that have come out of it will always be funny to me.

Well that’s about it for June….. there was so much wrestling I enjoyed and we’d be here forever if I detailed every match and every promo I loved. This wrestling shit is pretty cool sometimes.
