For my first interview I was fortunate enough to sit down with one of my close friends and pick her brain about her dreams of wrestling and the importance of women in wrestling. Many of you know Sanaya as @bankruptliv, but after this interview you’ll see her as the future.
To start the interview with Sanaya I asked about her idol, Sasha Banks. People who follow her knows that she loves Sasha, but that love and admiration goes so much deeper.
“Sasha made me fall in love with wrestling and heels in general. She’s so great at what she does and she’s so charismatic. She’s so loving to us [fans] always and I just admire that. She makes me feel like I can do this. She also talks about her brother very often which is something I relate to as my brother is also autistic. She just lets me know that I’m gonna be okay. He’s gonna be okay. and I will be able to achieve my dreams. “
Next, I asked about her dreams of wrestling, how she first fell in love, and if it happened all at once or if it was a gradual thing. Sanaya talked about the women she watches and the moment she knew she wanted to wrestle.
“When I first started watching wrestling, I didn’t know that’s what I wanted to do. over time, my love for wrestling grew so strong watching the likes of Sasha, Liv, Eve, The Bellas. Watching the women come up and take over the damn show made me see that “hey I can do this.” However, the exact moment I knew I wanted to wrestle was Sasha vs Bayley at Takeover Respect. If you know me you know that’s my comfort match. They tore the house down, and the ending of the match just filled me with an emotion I can’t describe.”
When asked about dream matches she personally would like to have, she mentions Sasha Banks, Liv Morgan, and Bianca Belair. She also says she wants to wrestle her friends in the Hell GC in the main event of Wrestlemania. She hopes to see this years Royal Rumble winner Bianca face off with Sasha at the biggest event of the year, and when asked about another dream match she would like to see, Sanaya says she would “sell her limbs” to see Sasha vs Bianca vs Naomi in the squared circle.
At last months PPV, WWE fans watched in awe as Bianca Belair won the Women’s Royal Rumble match. I asked Sanaya about the importance of this win and how it felt for her to watch.
“It meant the world to me. Bianca being that first african american woman to win the rumble the day before black history month is insane to me. She showed me that anything is possible, no matter my skin color.”
To wrap up the interview I wanted to talk about the women’s evolution happening within the wrestling world and some other things she’d like to see be accomplished in the realm.
“Earlier I talked about how watching women grew my love for wrestling. So seeing them getting the time they deserve and main eventing is so powerful to me. They deserve this so much and the girls like me and the hell gc get to see that women are damn powerful and can do what men do but even better. I would love to see a midcard women’s championship and I want them to actually take the tag team championships seriously. And Evolution 2! Bring back Evolution!”
I’m so incredibly thankful to Sanaya for allowing me to talk to her and do this interview. Talking to her about her dreams while actively living mine was so surreal. My very first interview how freaking cool is this?! I was lucky enough to have my other friends agree to interviews as well, and I’ll be releasing the rest of them over the next few days. Thank you to everyone who read this and a huge thank you to Sanaya for doing this! Everyone go send her some love 🤍✨
