“Women’s wrestling literally changed my entire life,” My tear-jerking conversation with Alexia.

In the second installment of “let me bother my friends for interview content,” I sat down with my girl Alexia, @hiacsasha , to talk all things women’s wrestling and her true love and passion for the industry. Alexia was nice enough to get deep and share a lot of personal things with me, and if you don’t cry or feel your heart warm reading this then you should take some time to self reflect.

To begin I asked Alexia about wrestling twitter. For everyone that doesn’t know, wrestling twitter is supposed to be a place for fans to come together and watch what they love, however there’s many lows and negative aspects of the space and it has started to get a bad rep. Being Alexia has a fan account, I wanted to get her thoughts on what wrestling twitter is to her.

Honestly wrestling twitter has like always been known for like not having the best rep ever but it’s the only place that I can share my love wrestling without feeling like I’m trying to be someone I’m not and I just really feel like me and I have these people around me that love the art as much as I do and it’s really my comfort zone. I cant explain the feeling I get. It’s the only place where I can just talk about my love for the sport. I don’t know what I’d do without it so I just ignore the negativity and talk about the one true love which is professional wrestling.”

Every great love story has a beginning, and when asking Alexia about when she first started watching wrestling, she shared that her love of wrestling is way more than just something she likes to watch.

I started watching wrestling during 2010. I was like six or seven years old and I remember going to my uncles house and my older cousin was playing a WWE game- I think it was WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2007 or 2008- but I remember seeing him play and I thought it was so cool. Then, when I saw the Divas wrestling, I was like “omg women wrestle in the game too?!?!” And remember being so excited to play because it looked so fun. I remember playing as Mickie James and I was just so happy. Anyways I went home, and me and my sisters immediately searched up WWE on YouTube and started watching old and new videos at the same time so we were kinda confused on the timeline of everything, but I literally got obsessed with wrestling from then. And then I remember my sister going through the TV and then she stooped on a channel and it was the last five minutes of Smackdown and she was literally screaming about how she finally found WWE, and I remember being so happy about it omg. So like everyday of my childhood was just like go to school, watch wrestling, and then go to sleep. It was literally my daily routine. I fell so deep for it and I literally grew with it its insane. There’s not even a specific match that made me fall in love with it, it’s just the entire art that made me love wrestling so much. It literally can never escape my life, and its a huge part of my childhood that will always hold a place in my heart. It saved my life when I was so young. You know a lot of people got over wrestling like my sisters they dont watch it anymore, but wrestling has always been a back and forth thing for me. There were periods of times in my life where I stopped watching, then went back, and then stopped, but after finding out they were using the women, I could never let it go. Women’s wrestling literally changed my entire life.”

With wrestling making such a big impact on Alexia, I asked what moments have inspired her the most.

Definitely Sasha’s Chronicle, Sasha Banks vs Bayley at Brooklyn (also their chronicle for the match), Sasha vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte at Wrestlemania 32, Kofi Kingston vs Daniel Bryan Wrestlemania 35, Io Shirai vs Candie Lerae at Takeover Toronto, and literally all of Evolution. There’s so many more matches, and I don’t want to leave them out (my brain isnt working atm), but these matches really made me feel way too inspired to get up and start my wrestling journey. Rewatching Evolution finally made me open my journal again, and its been so long like thats insane to me. Also, watching the first ever womens royal rumble- I literally watched it last night because I needed to feel something again- it did that for me. Anything with the women makes me feel so so inspired.”

She mentioned Evolution, and I asked her how important it was that we see a second all women’s PPV in the future.

I think its so freaking important. There are no words to describe how important it is for Evolution to have its second Pay-Per- View. It literally turned my whole life around. It should be an annual thing that happens every year, and I hope one day it continues on. Representation matters so much, and seeing the women have a first ever PPV in a male dominated environment like wrestling? A dream. I hope one day i can have a match at evolution (and maybe wrestle Sasha), and I hope one day [our gc] can be apart of it as well. So yeah, I think it’s extremely important for Evolution to have another PPV and even more after that.”

Alexia is a future women’s wrestler there is no doubt about it, so I couldn’t begin to wrap up this conversation without asking about her dream matches. After saying her all time dream match to watch would be Sasha Banks vs Bianca Belair vs Naomi, she talked about the matches she would like to wrestle some day in the future.

Other than Sasha Banks, my dream matches are wrestling my friends in the gc (they know who they are), Bianca, Naomi, Ember Moon, Shotzi Blackheart, Dakota Kai, Io Shirai, Charlotte, and Liv Morgan. I could go in depth how much I want to wrestle these women, but it would literally be too long. Their wrestling style is literally what I want all mixed together. So yeah, those are my dream matches and even many more women!!!!

As a final closing question I asked her thoughts and feelings on this years Royal Rumble winner, Bianca Belair.

Seeing her win the Royal Rumble meant so much to me, especially being a black teenager, and seeing someone who looks like me, and represents my community with so much pride is just so meaningful and makes me feel like one day I can accomplish that goal. Especially her winning it before black history month started just sealed the deal for me. Yeah it was really inspiring, and I’m just so proud of Bianca and I love her so much. And, I hope she faces Sasha because seeing my two faves wrestle each other? I would like to see it.

And that wrapped up my Interview with Alexia! I cannot express my gratitude towards her, and I’m so thankful she chose to open up like this. Wrestling is so important and I think this interview really showcases that.

For me to be able to post another interview (and have more lined up) is so surreal for me, and my heart is so full thinking about what I’ve started here. So thank you to my friends for letting me pick their brains, and to everyone who’s read or shared!
